Álvaro Siza com Manuel Somoza e Manuel Solanes, Barcelona, Spain, 2011
The Cultural Service of Llinares, authored by Alvaro Siza Vieira, is part of a public investment in cultural facilities and its opening is planned for 2012.
The building consists of two volumes, one to recover and one new, they both have two floors. In the new volume, on the ground floor, there are three classrooms and an auditorium and on the first is located a scenic cabine. In the volume to recover, on the ground floor there is a hall and on the first floor a small auditorium. From the structural point of view the existing volume, intended to keep the peripheral and some interior walls to ensure good behavior of the building in all directions. In the new volume the intention is to build on level 0 variable thickness slabs relaxed and in most of the coverage are expected 0.15m solid slabs.
The walls have generally 15cm. In the foundations focusing shoes with 35cm thickness were adopted and between them connected by 25cm thick lintels.
Among the many challenges we may outstand the inclusion all the infrastructure in the existing building, the excavation adjacent exterior walls of the old building, the design of the walls of the auditorium because of a 20cm height of 8.6 m.
