The Cargaleiro museum, designed by Álvaro Siza Vieira, contains a remarkable collection of works that comprise the assets of the Foundation Manuel Cargaleiro: Painting, ceramics, etc . The museum occupies an area of 500m2 and is located in Castelo Branco City.
The walls have generally 20cm, when buried, in order to resist the impulse of land, its thickness increases to relatively mild 25cm. Given the relatively minor gaps, the existing floor level 0, the proposal will be relaxed slabs, with thicknesses of 23cm. On the roof, landscaped as it is, there have been massive concrete slabs with thickness of 30 cm in order to guarantee the necessary stiffness for the loads installed.
As for the foundations, according to the geotechnical elements obtained, it was necessary beyond the general solutions of the direct type of foundations (continuous shoes along the walls of the building with a thickness of 25cm or 30cm, depending on the loads installed, linked by the lintels, in the two main directions), solutions of indirect type: foundation pits with diameters of 1000mm located in areas of greater concentration of loads.
These options optimized the behavior of the building for different settlements and ensure a good sealing all the way around even in areas where land does not have such good geotechnical characteristics.
