Nozar, Álvaro Siza com Jesus Manzanares, Panticosa, Spain, 2005
The Panticosa Spa Aparthotel is situated in a valley near a large lake of natural hot springs, at 1600 m altitude. It has an implementation area of 2224m and a total cost corresponding to 36.000.000.00€.
The project consists in apartments hotel, all in fair faced concrete (inside and outside, which allowed the placement of thermal insulation inserting several innovative solutions), whose functions are spread over three separate buildings. The first, an pre-existing three-story inhabited house, built of stone, dated 1980, which will host the reception.
The exterior will be restored maintaining its original features, and the interior will be completely rebuilt and reorganized adapting to new use. The two remaining are new construction and form two parallel wings, two storeys, in reinforced concrete and are located in the area immediately southwest of the house. The outer wall was the most difficult to achieve due to the one side using formwork, this was accomplished us
In addition, adverse weather conditions, in particularly the snow, were a significant constraint. The excavation due to high water table was another difficulty to overcome, in a way that when it began implementing the micro stakes thermal water gushed in some points, In consequence the project was adapted to this new reality (It already had a technical gallery around the perimeter to the reuse the thermal waters).
